Find your voice and find your gift

Find your gift

Did you know that you are carrying around something very precious and valuable inside you?

It’s not valuable while you hang on to it, in fact it only becomes worth anything when you give it away. Someone else needs it desperately, you could change their life if you gave it to them.

What is it, this valuable thing? I have to come clean at this point and say ‘I don’t know’. The reason I don’t know is because it’s different for all of us. What I do know though is that most of us carry around something that someone else needs.

I’m not talking literal gems and jewels here, I’m talking about ideas, thoughts, knowledge, time, love. All these things are priceless, you can’t buy them but grow as we give them away.

Here is a little analogy. If I have a ruby and you have a ruby, you give your ruby to me and I give my ruby to you, we each only have one ruby each. Now, if I have an idea and you have an idea and we give each other our ideas, we now have 2 ideas each.

If you have a feeling that you have something to give, something you want to do with your life, go to Finding your voice as a leader

and see what I have to say there. I think you will find it interesting.

Make a choice

I have a question for you. How many times have you said or thought, I’d love to do that, I could do that better than her or when I retire I’m going to…?

Life is busy I know, but your life is in your own hands. We have to take responsibility for ourselves. If it doesn’t get done it’s your fault, no one else’s.

Make a decision to make a contribution and get involved.

Stop making excuses about why life isn’t happening for you. If you accept responsibility for your own life and start doing something about it you are already several steps ahead of most of the other people on this planet.

What do I do?

If you haven’t already done so, have a look at Finding your voice as a leader , it will help you clarify what’s important to you.

Because we have the gift of freedom of choice, we can decide for ourselves what we spend our time on. This is a blessing and a curse. I get to act on my dreams but there again, no one is going to do it for me, I have to do it for myself.

Think and reflect what your passions, desires and dreams are and then decide what you are going to do with them.

As you write down your ideas and maybe go through the Pop model , don’t complicate things. Simplify and refocus. When you decide which injustice you are going to fight, what difference you are going to make, also consider is this the best for me, my health, my family and my well-being?

We live in a world of finite resources and finite time, we can’t concentrate on every idea that passes through our mind. We have to choose what we will focus on. Make a good choice, don’t rush it. You are going to invest time and energy in something that is going to last.

Make a choice,

Choose between good, better and best.

Clarify what your gift is and in the words of Saint Nike, Just Do It. Three words that will change your life… Do It Now.

Don’t waste another year wishing and waiting for an ideal time. If you wait for the perfect conditions you will never get anything done.

If you’re wondering if you have the time to do it you’re asking yourself the wrong question.  What you should be asking is ‘Is this going to take my life forward’?

Don’t worry about having time to finish, make a start. You will be amazed at how many things fall into place when you make a move. Everything doesn’t have to be in your favour today.

Build your dream, gather your tribe. As you work on your dream you will find inner resources and as you look back everything will become clearer to you.

Let’s do it differently this time.

Why not have your say?
